OUR NEXT ON LINE CONVERSATION

THE GENERATION GAME
September 30th (Wednesday) 7.30pm
What are the positives and negatives of ageing?
What are the benefits and problems around intergenerational mixing?

Is there a generational gap , has there always been? What is that gap,  how might it be filled and does it really matter?  Can the young ever understand what it is to be old? Can the old remember what it was like to be young? Two groups - what do they admire, resent, respect, expect of the other? These and other questions will be discussed in small group conversations. We would dearly like an intergenerational conversations, will people from both groups show up? Let's hope so, try and make that happen. Come along and bring someone from the other group along with you if you can.

If you would like an invitation to join us send us a message through the contact page and we will send you a link
to post your question and join the conversation
HOW DOES THE ON LINE  EMPTY GALLERY CAFE WORK?
Not all conversations will follow the same procedure exactly but this is the basic format
  • We send you an invitation link to the zoom conversation
  • A second link will be sent where you can write a question that matters an you would like a conversation about, sometimes related to a theme.
  • You post your question at least two days ahead of the date of the event
  • During the two days prior to the event you can click the link to see all the questions and vote for the one you like best, it may or may not be your own.
  • On the day of the event you click the invitation link to enter the meeting some five or six minutes before the start time . If you are later than ten minutes it may be difficult for us to admit you.
  • Once everyone has gathered you will be shown all the submitted questions; if you haven't previously voted you can do so now.
  • After a brief introduction you will be assigned to a breakout room with up to three, no more than four other people for the first conversation.
  • After twenty five minutes everyone will be returned to the main room for a five minute break before being reassigned another breakout room with a different group of people to continue the conversation.
  • After twenty five minutes you will returns to a central point again for feedback with everyone. You are invited to make notes or and drawings/ doodles during the conversations and if you want to share them here you can, alternatively you can send them in to be posted on this website.
Important, have pens, coloured pencils and paper to hand if you wish to take notes or make doodles and drawings.
Even more important bring yourself a coffee or glass of wine

COVID PANDEMIC
We began the Empty Gallery in May 2020 in response to the Covid 19 pandemic and the national lockdown. It was clear that the community needed a place to meet and have access to challenging conversations.
Here are some of the feedback we have had from the conversation we have had on line.
